6 Places In Your Home That You Never Knew Needed Cleaning (But Totally Do)

There are some places in your home you never think of cleaning because, well, they don't really need it. Right? Wrong! Just because something doesn't seem to get dirty doesn't mean it can't use a good cleaning every now and then. In fact, the longer you put it off for, the more urgently you have to clean it! Here are five places in your home that you never knew needed cleaning, but totally do.

1.Your toothbrush holder

Your toothbrush holder is probably one of the dirtiest places in your home. It's a warm, moist and dark place that's the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Not to mention, it's a place where you store your toothbrush, which means that bacteria and other contaminants can be transferred to your teeth and gums. To clean your toothbrush holder, soak it in a mixture of hot water and bleach for about 10 minutes. Rinse it thoroughly and let it air-dry.

2. The door handles

Door handles are one of the most commonly overlooked places when it comes to cleaning. However, they are one of the dirtiest places in your house. Think about it – everyone touches them, and they often get overlooked when it comes to cleaning. Not to mention, they can be a breeding ground for bacteria. To clean your door handles, use a disinfectant wipe or some diluted bleach.

3. The light switches

The kitchen is one of the most high-traffic areas in your home, so it's no wonder that it's one of the dirtiest, too. Not only do you have all the food and grease stains to worry about, but your light switches are probably a haven for grime and bacteria. In fact, you may be surprised just how dirty they can get (especially if you don't clean them often). That's why it's important to enlist the help of a professional housekeeper—they have the right tools to clean even the most stubborn dirt and grime. Plus, they'll know which areas need extra attention, like those pesky light switches that seem to always get overlooked.

4. The remote control

It's easy to forget about the remote control because it's tucked away in a drawer or cabinet. But did you know that it can be a breeding ground for bacteria and dust? To clean it, take a damp cloth and wipe down the buttons and the screen. Be sure to get in between the crevices, too. If there's any built-up dirt or dust, use a soft brush to brush it away.

5. Your phones

Phones can get pretty dirty, especially if you tend to eat or drink while you're using them. Not to mention, they come into contact with a lot of bacteria! To clean your phone, use a microfiber cloth to wipe it down. You can also use a little bit of water if needed, but be sure to dry it off completely before using it again.

6. Your laptop and keyboard

It's always a good idea to give your home a thorough cleaning at least once a month for the health of all occupants. But in order to make sure you're cleaning all the places that need it, you need to know where to look. These are five places in your home that often go overlooked, but definitely need attention – especially if you want to keep your family healthy and free of germs.
