Places Where Mould Lurks In Your Home

Mould thrives in damp and humid environments. In our homes, this can be areas with a lot of moisture, such as in the bathroom or areas with poor ventilation. Mould also grows well on common household items like paper products, cardboard, wood products, fabric and upholstery.

Due to our weather and high humidity, mould can easily become a major problem for Singaporean households. Some common signs of mould infestation include dank musty smells, and discoloured or fuzzy patches or spots on surfaces.

With the help of our specialised house cleaning services, you can prevent and get rid of mould concerns in your home. Our specialists are prepared to handle moisture and mould-related issues, guaranteeing that you and your family can live in a healthy and mould-free environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Commonly asked questions regarding tools, insurance, workforce and our general operations

What if I have mouldy fabric items?

Sometimes, mould will spread to soft fabric items such as clothes, bedding, and soft toys. Wash these affected soft fabric items in the washing machine on a hot cycle to clean and sanitise them. Do not wash them with your unaffected clothing items. In some cases, the mould discolouration may still stain the items and cannot be removed.

For mouldy soft furnishings such as sofas and armchairs, our professional upholstery cleaning service can disinfect, sanitise and clean them, removing any active mould contamination.

Can cleaning alone remove mould?

For small areas of mould, cleaning with household detergent may be sufficient to clean and sanitise the affected area. Use a separate cleaning cloth and wash it separately to avoid spreading the mould to uncontaminated areas.

However, if the mould infestation covers a large area, a mould removal service will be more effective in removing mould infestation and preventing further recurrence of mould growth.

What are the symptoms of mould in my household?

Mould has a distinctive musty smell. If the room has a persistent smell of moisture, like rotten wood or paper, there is likely a mould infestation.

Visually, mould often looks like a ‘fuzz’ or appears to be a stain, smudge or discolouration. This discolouration is often black, green or white. Mould can also be other colours, ranging from grey to orange to brown and can also change depending on age and stage of growth.

If you come across small patches of mould in your household items, there are several ways you can handle their removal. You can use non-ammonia cleaners, bleach, distilled white vinegar, or hydrogen peroxide to clean the mould.

What are the health risks of household mould?

If your household has mould issues, you are likely to experience respiratory issues, respiratory infections, allergies or asthma. Mould exposure can also bring complications to immune-compromised family members like the elderly and those undergoing chemotherapy.

Babies, children and the elderly are also more sensitive than others to mould. Those with existing skin problems (such as eczema), respiratory problems (such as allergies and asthma), and those with weakened immune systems (such as those undergoing chemotherapy) should minimise contact with mould as they might exhibit extreme symptoms brought by opportunistic infections.

Symptoms, such as sneezing, a runny nose, throat irritation, red eyes, and skin rash, can indicate allergic reactions to mould.
